Web 2.0 Applications

Glogster
I enjoyed learning about a different site to be creative on. I enjoy using my creative side and this just gives me a chance to do just that. The glog can help anyone be more interactive, colorful and makes learning fun. The first glog i did was about a special day in my classroom where we celebrated the thanksgiving holiday by giving back and having a big feast!

Delicious
I had a hard time with the Delicious site.  It is nice to see the web suggestions of others but at the same time I do not really like the site.  I like the fact that it is another social media site that helps others out with different suggestions of fashion, food and travel.  The site also gives a preview of different news from around the world.  It may just be me, but I believe some social media sites are just to much. I could pass on Delicious.  Delicious just wasn't that delicious to me.

These are my personal feelings about the site.  Once I find a few social site I like I stick to them but I also try not to get connected to too many.  Once connected to social sites you may forget about reality.

My Delicious sight  has a few links so I've added the link to my sight where you can see a few of my interest

Google Docs

Google docs is a neat app to have.  I think it will be very useful when I create documents that go home with my students.  If i just upload all of my documents and the parents know they can access this at anytime then there will never be any confusion about not receiving a form.

I've always seen Google docs but never really knew what it was.  I will definitely continue using this.  I've added a link to my Google docs page.  Here you will find my first post to Google docs of my end of year slideshow with my class. This slideshow is something that I will cherish forever because it is from my first year as a teacher.

Pinterest

I love this sight!!!
I use this for so many different ideas.  I believe I am a creative and artsy person and Pinterest just helps me to enhance what I already believe.  There have been so many ideas that I have used not only in my classroom but around the house as well.  Some example for what I've done for the classroom include the following:

Storybook Character Day:  Treat bags for Halloween candy
Thanksgiving:  Turkey Hats
Christmas:  Snowflake ornaments
Valentine's Day:  Valentine treat box made from a Kleenex box
Dr. Seuss Read Across America Day:  Dr. Deuss top hats made from paper plates and construction paper
Last Day of School:  "Have a kool summer" gift for my class on the last day of school

I also love the site for DIY projects.  I've even cut up an old pair of jeans to make the jeans that people pay about 40 or more dollars for in the store.
I've even been around friends when they've said they were doing something creative.  Once I would get back to a computer I would look some more ideas up for how to do the project in different ways.  Pinterest is just a great site to explore your creativity.  I've posted a link to some of the ideas I have pinned and liked from Pinterest.

My Wiki

Creating a wiki was the easiest thing to do.  I think this will be something good to use during the school year.  A wiki is almost like a monthly or weekly newsletter that would be sent home to the parents.  Knowing that a lot of things are done using electronics this would be a good site to use in addition to paper throughout the year.  There was not a lot that i could really post to the wiki right now since school is not in but I'm pretty sure if I have this site up during the school year then it would be a great addition to my classroom.

As of right now there are not any post on the wiki but I did do some exploring on the site and it is very simple to use.  Projects, Events and assignments can be posted to the calendar for everybody to see.  During my first year I had to update an online calendar through the district website and it was kind of difficult to get through.  This on the other hand is easy, colorful and fun.  This site is something that I would enjoy and wouldn't mind doing opposed to the districts calendar that was a hassle and more so something that i used to dread doing.

I'm posting a link to my wiki.  Like i said earlier there is not much on there but as soon as the school year approaches more events, assignments and important dates will be added.

My Digital Story

For my digital story i had fun doing a play on the popular story Miss Nelson is Missing.  For our story book character day i dressed up as Miss Nelson and the kids loved it.  In my Digital story I kind of reinacted the actual story by using pictures from that day as well as other pictures throughout the school year.

I had fun putting it together and i think it would be something interesting that my kids could use if we had an assignment to make connections with the story and the video.

I've attached my video in the blog.  Let me know what you think!

Biteslide

I really enjoyed using Biteslide.  While I was reading the descriptions for the different Web 2.0 applications that I could try out I was intrigued by the words scrap-booking.  Scrap-booking is something that i love to do during my free time.

During this past school year I took a lot of pictures of my class doing different things.  I have pictures from almost every field trip and in class activity that went on during the year.  So, using Biteslide I gathered a few of the most memorable events and added words to it to make an online scrapbook.

Using this application was not hard at all.  I wish I would have known about it when I had to put together a slideshow for my end of year awards ceremony because this would have helped out a lot.  I will definitely use this again.
